The city of Bressanone, original a bishop’s center, stands in a wide valley between the Isarco and the Rienza, among the slopes of the Sarentino Mountain and the peaks of the Plose –which belongs to the Dolomiti.
The city looks quite lively and, through a variety of architecture styles – from the Roman the one of today – offers to the visitor a series of beautiful buildings and works of art.
Therefore, the choice of which monument visit, within and outside the walls of the city, is big.
The “old center” is characterized by big and small arcades, old and narrow alleys, the beautiful bourgeois houses, the antique workshops and ‘trattoria”, the Episcopal Palace and above all by the baroque principal cathedral, which is richly decorated.
The cloister’s frescos represent one of the highest examples of Tirolo’s paintings. By the eastern side of the city stands the mountains group of the Plose, a series of peaks and hills that determines the western part of the Dolomites.
This area has a beautiful view and offers lots of possibilities for those who like sightseeing and skiing. Therefore, this wonderful little town is a great tourist attraction all year long.
