HISTORY
The Protestant Reform and the rebellions of the peasants in the German area had an influence upon Tirolo, also.
During the peasants uprisings of 1525, Michael Gaismar (1490 1532) formulated the so-called articles of Merano, in which he pointed out the requests of the peasants.
Many castles and fortresses were burned down, while the fury of the common people was focused towards the nobles and the clergy, and the Gaismairs plan of creating a rural republic seemed to remain utopist.
